As just a concept demo this is incredible, it's hard to believe a parson made something like this, it makes me so excited for what ever might come in the future.

The game has potential, but lot's of omissions too. Some of them are:
There is no life gauge and meter gauges are in the corner. You should move them to the top and bottom of the screen.
The animations are smooth, but character spins so fast and often, so it's impossible to say what it's doing.
There is no training mode. Player has to go to player match instead.
Why do colours switch mid combo?
If you have unblockable attack, it should be reactable and be the way to avoid it.
Here I've listed only fundamental problems, but they can be fixed. Good luck!

This game looks fantastic but is there any chance that this would come to Mac

Coming back to this game to write one final comment on this until a new update comes... my opinion is still the same as before.

Hoping that you fix the gameplay because it feels floaty and clunky because i can tell you want to make an actual good game, you just need to do these things to make it feel better to play:

1. Make wallbreak better.

2. Make it less floaty.

3. Understand what a hitbox is.

4. Have proper hitboxes.

5. HITBOXES

6. Understand how fighting game mechanic's work.

7. Did I mention hitboxes yet?

8. Oh yeah, hitboxes.

9. I can't comprehend how much I need to say add hitboxes.

10. And final... Understand how to properly make a fighting game as a whole. (THIS INCLUDES HITBOXES)

I simply don't care about the sprites and their big "assets", what I care about is the gameplay, that what matters to me the most. I don't play Fighting games to cum bro, I play them to do good combos (and also just stay in training mode for like half an hour).

Hope you take the hint from this.

OH YEAH... don't forget about the hitboxes :) -Ioro

This game is probably one of the worst i played, while the sprites are okayish and the music is really good, this game feels unfun to play. Hell, even Dong Dong Never Die knew how to make a game fun even with its jank.

hoping you flesh it out more because this game is very unfun to play with and is just... awful.

(+1)

yeah the person is fleshing it out and it's still W.I.P. for sure, check on their twitter for updates.

(-1)

I do check their twitter from time to time, it still looks janky.

(1 edit) (+2)

Bro it's a WiP, chill, it's still actively being worked on, so instead of being a dick, maybe give some actual criticism so the dev can actually fix said jank?

(1 edit)

you missed the whole point, I see.

I tried to sound somewhat nice by saying the sprites are okayish (they are pretty well animated, and smooth as hell) and the music, is of course, awesome (I mean, it's genesiskeys, how could you not like the guy music?).

The problem with this game, is how it plays and how it feels, I don't know what to tell you other than "I don't like playing this" because I generally don't like how this plays. It feels like he threw some random ideas together (which would be good on paper, but it just turned out, just awful).

The big problem is the hitbox, it feels non existence. If you don't know what a hitbox is, don't worry! I'll just link this random video and let you take it as you will.

Since I think I wasted my time typing this I might as well end it on this note: I've been looking at his Twitter lately (i can probably consider myself a somewhat fan of his), he uploaded some new gameplay of the game, and it still looks weird. Probably just me because I play street fighter, kof, guilty gear, chaos code, melty blood, ect, ect.

If you still think I am acting like a dick, just smashing on this person work without reasons, well... remember that this is my opinion, don't take my word on it, enjoy what you like! Simple, as simple can be.

Okay that's enough yapping from me, cya!

Hey if anyone has any problems running this game try doing this:

1.Put the game on your C: drive

2.use windows compatibility modes,  Windows XP sp3

3.install/enable DirectPlay

4. try downloading the game via the external one(mediafire) instead of the itch.io

that should work and you should be able to play the game.

one more thing, once you boot up to the character select screen once you select player 1 you will also need to select player 2 as well so you can fight.

Incredible visuals and music and animation. It plays well, and I look forward to seeing more from this.
Although 2D Fighter maker games run like molasses on my machine. I wish I knew how to fix that.

game is fast, looks like has a lot of potential...ai is brutal...no chance to breathe...sheesh.

Brugh

found some sick combos and had my game crash somehow!

video for anyone wondering:

Like the demo, but like all 2DFM games, the AI is too damn spastic

meh.

PEAK DROPPED

i don't know how to start the game, the .exe file doesnt execute

Try using windows compatibility modes, XP sp3 should work nicely

sorry, still doesn't work

You may have to install/enable DirectPlay for the game to run on Windows 10.

by any chance did you put the game on your c: drive?

i did put the game on my c: drive and installed direct play, still nothing :(

hmm did you try the external file link rather than the itch.io one?

i have an issue where the game refuses to start a stage, even after selecting a character, both in keyboard mode and joystick mode. What am i supposed to do? I didn't install 2d fighter maker, btw

Select the character as player 2

thanks, it worked! i just had to press the "y" key

Real cool demo , there's amazingly high attention to details and it's fairly easy to pick up with a lot of cool stuff in there,

Some of the mechanics are unusual in other fgs (EX moves being different inputs / mashing a special button) but it's what spices up the labbing I did. I'm gonna try to play games at my locals, but until then consider this review incomplete.

here's some important info to help anyone who wants to check this out.

First of all, please set the speed to 10 in the settings, higher or lower will heavily mess with the game, since there's a fairly high amount of timing dependent stuff.

Joysticks messes up the engine because it's expecting 2 pads but doesn't dectect them, please be patient, 2Dfm2nd is a 20 y/o engine. If you want to use pads, i recommand something like AntiMicro or Joy2Pad.

You'll need to select a character as Player 2 in order to start the game

I hope to see more of it, preferably in a slightly less janky engine if possible.
